A little bit about me! I am Samantha Brinson Lee, or just Sammi since we are now friends! I have been known to focus on the positive and romanticize my life! This website is a manifestation of that! I first came to Korea via study abroad in 2019 and met my now husband less than a month in to my time here. Sadly my academic year was cut short due to covid, but that did not stop me from adeventusing back. My desire to visit every possible cultural site in Korea came during Summer 2020 when my then-boyfriend and I traveled around the country together. After an intimate US wedding in 2020, I moved to Korea that December. The rest is history! I finished my Women’s Leadership degree from Clemson University with a minor in East Asian studies, online while beginning my married life. We had a big fat Korean wedding December of 2022, which is when my family visited me for the first time.
After my family traveled to Korea I started compiling lists and offering it to anyone who would accept. Through my classes at Sogang University and self study I devoured Korean history and shared it happily with anyone who would listen. This site has all the things I would share with a friend!
After years of devouring K-Dramas and romance books, my favorite being the surge of romantasy, I craved a book that felt like a K-Drama. I wanted a multicultural love story like my own that showed a new culture in the way that felt like I did as a newcomer — awed and inspired with a new sense of home.
That is how my debut book BEYOND THE BARRIERS came to be. Bridgerton meets K-drama as a trapped adventure craving socialite awakens magic thought lost, transporting half a world away to a Joseon-inspired court. Met by a mind-magic wielding Prince she must guard her heart from the barriers between them — distance, culture, language and secrets!
After my first book, the diverse love stories were not finished in the Koseon-Carlyn Universe. Three more standalone novels were born all focusing on a new couple! The series celebrates intersectional divesity in all its forms! My current work in progress is a contemporary romantasy duology that mixes Greek god myths with a diverse cast and badass main character. Stay tuned!
